Dog Bite and Animal Attacks

Florida law holds the dog owner liable if that dog bites any person while such person is on or in a public place or lawfully on or in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness. Any negligence on the part of the person bitten that may reduce the amount of damages.

An animal bite victim can protect his rights by taking certain steps. It is important to remember to get medical attention right away, obtain the name and address of the owner of the dog as well as the dog’s license information. Make sure that police or animal control is called to conduct an investigation. Take the name and address of any potential witnesses, take pictures of the injuries( bruises, cuts, scrapes, stitches and scars)
Find out where the incident took place and the condition of the clothing in the area bitten. If an animal attack, it is the owner’s responsibility to keep the animal away from other people and pets.
